About Professional Immigration

This immigration category exists to attract professionals and specialists with higher education to Canada, where they can benefit the country with their knowledge and experience, while being assured of a bright future. The Canadian government depends on carefully considered selection criteria, which aim to only allow the acceptance of those applicants who have a good chance of adapting well to their new home and becoming full fledged members of Canadian society.

You need to accumulate 67 points to be successful under this category.

You can obtain points for the following attributes:

- Profession - This is the most important criterion. The Canadian government has a list of professions that are not in demand and whose applications are restricted in Canada. Most in demand are specialists in the field of computer technology and programming. Similarly, many types of engineering specialists are in demand. Very importantly, lawyers, teachers and doctors were not mentioned in this list until recently, but presently they are qualified to apply as well. Although you do not accumulate points based on this category, your application will not even be considered if your profession is not in demand in Canada.

- Age - Individuals aged 21 to 49 receive the maximum of 10 points. If you are younger than 18 years of age or older than 54, you will receive zero (0) points for this category.

- Education - You will receive 20 points if you have higher education, and 25 points for having a Master`s Degree or a PhD.

- Work Experience in Your Profession - You can accumulate a maximum of 21 points for work experience if you have worked for longer than four years. If you have no work experience whatsoever, you are not qualified to apply for immigration.

- Guaranteed Employment in Canada - If you have a guaranteed job in Canada, you automatically receive 10 additional points. In order to receive a guaranteed job you must file a separate application with the Canadian government. International Immigration Law Firm of Inna Kogan will gladly assist your prospective Canadian employer in going through the process of applying for your Arranged Employment or Labour Market Option.

- Knowledge of English or French Languages - Those individuals who speak either one of Canada’s official languages fluently receive 16 points, and persons with fluent French and English will receive an additional 8 points. Fluency is verified through acceptable language examination scores or equivalent proof of proficiency. For English language, IELTS is the examination of choice, while French is verified through TEF.

- Relatives in Canada - If you have close relatives in Canada such as, siblings, parents, children, aunts or uncles, then you can receive additional 5 points.

- Education or Work Experience in Canada - If you studied anywhere in Canada for two years, or if you worked in Canada for at least one year, you will receive 5 points.

In order to successfully immigrate to Canada you must receive a total of 67 points.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What documents will I have to submit?
Applications filed under the Skilled Worker Class predominantly include documents relating to the applicant`s education and employment experience. During the process, applicants are required to submit statutory documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates and certificates of non-criminal conviction (commonly referred to as “police clearance certificates”) from each place of residence where an applicant has permanently resided for more than 6 months during the past 10 years.

What amount of assets do I have to possess?
In deciding how much of liquid assets (hard currency) an Skilled Worker Class applicant or family needs in order to meet initial settlement expenses, it is generally recommended that the applicant be in possession of CAD$10,000, plus an additional CAD$2,000 per each accompanying dependent. The ability to fund initial settlement cost without resource to social assistance is a question of admissibility.

How long will it take for me to receive my permanent residence in Canada?
Since June of 2008, each Canadian visa office has the power and authority to control the timing of their processes. Before this change came into place, all visa posts acted on the “first come, first serve” basis. The new system means that with proper lobbying and high quality of representation you have a better chance of obtaining your visas sooner than others.
