About Live-In Caregiver Program

LIVE-IN CAREGIVER PROGRAM (or LCP) has been specially developed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada to bring qualified workers to Canada to do live-in work as caregivers when there are not enough Canadians to fill the available positions. An important requirement of LCP is that employees must live in the employer`s home while providing care for children, elderly persons or people who have disabilities.

Successful applicants receive a work permit that allows them to work in Canada as live-in caregivers under an Employment Agreement preliminary signed by both parties. The minimum wage that can be expected for this type of work is between $8 and $10 (CAD), 8 hours per day. Minimum hours paid per week: 40.

The greatest LCP advantage is that after two years of employment, live-in caregivers can apply in Canada - without leaving the country - to become permanent residents. You may include your family members in your application (a spouse and children). The permanent resident status may be granted if you meet the requirements:
- You must be 21 - 45 years old.
- You must have successfully completed the equivalent of a Canadian high school education.
- You must have working experience as a caregiver, i.e. twelve months of full-time paid employment during last three years, including at least six months of continuous employment.
- You must have pedagogical or medical education/training.
- You must be able to speak, read and understand either English or French at a level that allows you to communicate confidently inside and outside the home. For example, you must be able to contact emergency services if required and to understand labels on medication. A good knowledge of English or French will be important for yourself as it enables your to read and understand your rights and obligations.

The ideal candidates are nurses, doctors, teachers, early childhood educators, nannies, tutors, social workers, and psychologists - those who have full time working experience providing care for children, seniors and disabled. Former participants of Au-Pair Program in Europe and the US are also the best match for LCP.
Driver’s License, First Aid Certificate are considered as assets.
If you want to work in Canada as a Live-in Caregiver, and if you are interested in an opportunity to become a permanent resident after 2 years of employment, then this program is for you!
